Powered Image Working Lab was formally established by Director Hwa-Jen Tsai in 2021 as a collaborative platform for film and media research, film screenings and festivals, humanities and social sciences research, and arts and media discussion and fora. The Lab seeks to probe artistic, social, political, historical, and theoretical issues in the production and circulation of film and media. This Lab also serves as a hub for interdisciplinary practice and exchange, inviting scholars, filmmakers, media creators, and artists to engage in sharing and discussion of their research and creative practice. Broad themes across Powered Image Working Lab’s output include: media and moving image; feminist, queer, and trans studies; (re-)examinations of historical archives; and issues of displacement, migration, and movement. Previous events include the Women Make Waves International Film Festival Taiwan (NYCU Tour), the Inter-Asia Societies Mini-Film Festival (NYCU), and lectures by scholars and artists from around the world.
